Mr. Kayongo Richard is a 60 year old resident of Kasozi village in Kamuli district. He is a person with disability and a father of three children whom he takes care of. However, due to his state and condition, he is unable to provide for his children sufficiently because its very difficult for him to move from one place to another in search of his children’s basic needs like food and clothing. The family is in a very poor state because meeting the complex needs of a person like Kayongo with a disability puts him and the whole family under a great deal of stress, emotionally, financially and physically. Since Kayongo Richard is interested in being part of the community, he is able to engage into active discussions with fellow members of the area where he comes from.
The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) of Children’s Concern Africa Mr. Morrishid Isabirye reached out to Kayongo Richard in his home to ask him if there is any help he would render to him. And since it was an oral conversation. Kayongo Richard accepted any kind of help that would be provided by the organization. In his conversation, Richard says he feels a lot of chest pain due to the use of his hands to move because he has no other way of moving from one place to another. He also said his faced with a lot of social hurdles in the form of prejudice, discrimination and avoidance where he acts as an object of pity while in the community.
As a society we can come up and improve the healthcare access, improve on the social security of Kayongo Richard and his family through funding for programs that support people with disabilities like Children’s Concern Africa. In this world life does not have to stop just because life is turned upside down.
